For some reason I take comfort in knowing that I can buy a refreshing Coca-Cola just about anywhere in the world. It’s my go-to comfort drink of choice and I drink it often. I had a Coke before boarding the plane to fly to LA and another one on the plane. As we strolled through the airport and we noticed the shelves were all stocked with it. As we landed in Sydney Australia, Coke was there on the shelves ready to greet us and refresh us after a long journey. Even as we continue to travel to Papua New Guinea I expect it will be there as well. Very few products have the global presence of Coke because Coke has intentionally brought its brand of beverages everywhere in the world and has enjoyed immense success because of it. But before there was Coke, there was Jesus. Jesus had gone global long before any fortune 500 company could have even conceived it. The empty cross is a sign that He is represented. And his sign has been erected by the faithful who had the audacity to believe that the whole world needed to hear about him. They carried his message on shoe string budgets from the least to the greatest of people. His message has been proclaimed almost literally to the ends of the earth. I was reminded of this while drinking my Coke observing the empty cross on the church across the street.
Tomorrow we are traveling to Papua New Guinea en route to visit our missionaries, Chris and Maggie Hostetter. They are committed to bringing the Gospel to a tribe in PNG. This tribe does not have Coke yet, but they have the Gospel and that is far more refreshing then any drink. We live in a day and age when people are thirsty for the Gospel and God wants you to bring it to them. I want to encourage you to share your faith for this very reason. That is His global plan and we are a part of it.
